Annual Film Art Course for High School Students

The Film Art Course is the club’s longest-running and most significant educational program, primarily intended for high school students and conducted over several months starting in October.

Participants receive essential theoretical film knowledge and, through practical work, learn about the filmmaking process and all stages of production. The final result is a film created through teamwork under the mentorship of experienced members.

Lecturers are long-term members who are continuously trained in film and non-formal education. They are encouraged to attend other training programs to strengthen both themselves and the organization. ADU students and related fields are also involved—most of whom completed this same course—allowing young people to pass on their knowledge with mentor support. Guest experts are also invited for special lectures.

Learning outcomes:
  • use of film equipment and post-production tools
  • understanding film as both art and technical culture
  • independent film creation
  • critical thinking development
  • acquiring civic competencies using film as a tool

FilmEk

Guest screenings have been held throughout the county for many years, including during EU Week.

In the municipality of Vojnić, located in central Croatia, we have successfully run the project Filmski Uskrs i Vaskrs for many years (supported by HAVC and in cooperation with the Municipality). It is an educational film project well received by the local community, and we have expanded this model to neighboring municipalities.

The Municipality of Plaški, which has a long-standing cinema audience, is included so that local audiences—especially young ones—can participate not only as viewers but also engage in film culture through education and simple film creation.

The project connects two components:
audience development through learning about film culture
social awareness of the importance of preserving natural resources around us

Workshops for Educators

Since March 2013, an independent program has been running — a series of educational workshops in cooperation with primary and secondary schools (fiction and animation workshops with OŠ Dubovac, OŠ Grabrik, OŠ Dragojla Jarnević, Karlovac Gymnasium, Secondary School Duga Resa…).

The workshops are also intended for teachers, and we invite all interested educators to contact us so we can plan future collaborations in time.

Volunteers

We pay special attention to work with young people and volunteer activities. Kinoklub is an organization that was created as a result of the volunteer engagement of film enthusiasts, and one of the main goals is to transfer the knowledge of older members to younger generations. In addition, volunteers are actively involved in the organization of festival programs where their work and progress is monitored.

Volunteers at the Cinema Club can request certificates of volunteering, mentoring support from the volunteer coordinator, and new experiences that, in addition to personal development, can also help with employment, especially in related fields of activity.

Podcast Zvučni val

The Podcast Zvučni val is our new project, realized with the support of the Kultura nova Foundation. It was created as a result of an educational and workshop program at Kinoklub Karlovac. It involves young participants from several high schools: Duga Resa High School, Economics and Tourism School, Karlovac Music School and Karlovac Gymnasium.

This is a new format of the show that also includes a video recording, after the zero episode with members of the popular Karlovac band Prazan stan, released in May 2023, which can be listened to at the link.

The episodes are broadcast on a monthly basis, published on our YouTube channel.

Film Quizzes

Film Quizzes are organized for all film lovers, they are held in a biweekly rhythm and are great fun and an opportunity for movie gatherings and discussions about movies and movie interesting things. The presenters are members of the Karlovac Cinema Club. We invite all those interested to follow the announcements and join us.

Analog Photography Workshops

Analog Photography Workshops are prepared and traditionally held with the aim of educating the younger generations in both technical and visual terms. The process of making black and white photographs is shown in all stages, with a later exhibition of the works created during the workshop. The leaders Pavle Kocanjer and Marinko Marinkić are talented and successful young cinematographers, who transfer their experiences and skills precisely on the basis of

In 2023, Kinoklub Karlovac received the SKOCKANO quality label for its non-formal educational programs.
